CMU-Georgia: What they are saying

NOTE: This is the first blog installment over the next 48 hours or so, previewing the 3:30 p.m. Saturday showdown between Central Michigan and No. 2 ranked Georgia. This is "What they are saying," next is "What NCAA Football 09 is saying" and finally, "What I am saying." Expect this sort of set-up every week on this blog, previewing the game each week.

The long-awaited test for CMU is just around the corner. It's been a busy week for me, locking up credentials, talking to players, going to class and finishing up homework for class and CM Life. I'm tallying 28 hours on the road this weekend, driving to Georgia and back, because we couldn't lock in plane tickets Saturday. (Blame it on the age limit, 25, for car rentals from Atlanta to Athens)

But as per the title, there's plenty to be said about this game, particularly because of the Chippewas' opponent...

- USA Today is picking Georgia to win 37-10. They say losing the No. 1 spot shouldn't concern them at all, especially with South Carolina, a hated rival, up next.

- It sounds like Georgia's defense is not taking junior quarterback Dan LeFevour lightly. "I say he's Tebow, Jr.," said safety Reshad Jones.

- LeFevour's not putting any added pressure onto himself or the team when it goes to Sanford Stadium, according to the Savannah Morning News.

- Coach Mark Richt continues to work the players hard this week, according to the Macon Telegraph.

- Speaking of the players, as expected, they say they aren't concerned at all about the slip from No. 1 to No. 2, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Said All-American running back Knowshon Moreno, above: “I don’t think that many of our guys are paying attention to them, because we can’t really control them."

- The Bleacher Report calls CMU "warmup number two" for Georgia, and the Bulldogs should win handily 48-24.

- The Seattle Post-Intelligencer previews Saturday's game.

Overall, fairly predictable coverage heading into Saturday's game... Georgia says they're not paying attention to its drop to No. 2, they're giving LeFevour plenty of attention and, of course, many predict the Bulldogs to steamroll Saturday in preparation for their next opponent, the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Check back late Thursday or early Friday for NCAA Football 09's prediction of CMU-Georgia, and check back Friday night for my in-depth analysis.
